Dept. of Adopting Stray Cats
So Child Protective Services has closed the case on one of my special ed students for lack of evidence (though I strongly suspect that they closed it because he just turned 18). And, because he just turned 18, his "auntie" kicked him out of the house (though I strongly suspect she'll keep cashing his disability and Social Security checks).
Fortunately for this kid, he can crash on the couch of his almost-2-year-old baby's momma in the Grove. She's 31 and may soon have a job. Unfortunately, she's 31 and lives with her parents, and her parents don't like him. But, fortunately, she's applying for public housing, so there's always that hope, and we here at school have arranged for him to have a month of bus tickets and even a place to stay (that will only let him stay 72 hours because he's now 18 years old).
I should have never "loaned" him that two bucks for bus fare (that I was fairly sure, even as I handed it to him, I would never see again).
